Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Ultimate Edition App Reviews

Good but not great; technical issues

First it must be said (because I’m not seeing it in the other reviews) — the input lag is considerable. I’m not sure whether that is because it’s ported from Windows, or what. I experience the same lag using the trackpad also, so it’s not a driver issue with the mouse. I do not experience this with other games, just Deus Ex. I tried using raw input (an option under Advanced Settings in the game launcher) — that made the mouse unusable in the game. So I have to mention this first, because many things in the game depend on how quickly you can react and respond — and the lag gets in the way of that. But I adapted somewhat to the mouse lag, and found it a decent game. I think that cyberpunk genre has a lot to be explored, and I’m glad people are attempting games in this space. The story was good enough, it was obviously crafted to the gameplay but it has enough hooks to keep the interest up. The scenes are richly detailed and fun to explore (if labyrinthine) … The difficulty tuning needs some work. The first boss is in my opinion harder than it ought to be, especially considering I was low on ammo, but I did have rockets. I couldn’t take the guy down with two rockets, which is implausible. Almost made me quit altogether. But after replaying it a million times I got through it and kept on. It was not a feeling of triumph — more like “wtf, seriously?" The stealth mechanics were good but short of great. Give me a button to throw a whistle (e.g. Assassin’s Creed) instead of having to pick up a box and throw it to get an enemy’s attention. Stuff like that made the game feel like it came up short, but it has more going for it than against it.

This is an awesome game

This is my favorite game of all time, so far. It played very well on my 27” iMac 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 with 8GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M 1024 MB. I would highly recommend it. The length of the game itself i was happy about… you definitely get your moneys worth.

SOLUTION: DeusEx Quits After Setup Window

I’have seen that a lot of users have problems with that game when they start it. Aftwe clicking “Play” in the initial setup window, the game quits without any error message (except the Apple Crash Report). SOLUTION: In the setup menu of the game go to Advanced -> Open Preference Folder button. In the window that will be opened, delete the file: “Preferences Data”. Once it is deleted, quit the menu, start it again, and play. It worked for me. The game is amazing!

Worked Great But Now Not Working

Game was phenomenal but not the game will not even launch. I have uninstalled and relaunched multiple times.

Fun game but...

This game was Awesome…I enjoyed every minute…just wish there was a new game + mode…. it would be so much more fun!!

Excellent, no problems at all on my 17” Macbook at all

I played the original Deus Ex years ago on my PC and thought it was a great game. So when I saw the next version was available on the MAC I was interested. A few of the negative reviews saying there were issues with the Mac did put me off. But I tried it and can report flawless and excelent game play. No issues at all and I am enjoying the game very much.

Amazing game!

This game was great! The plot line is fantastic and the gameplay is easy to learn. It did lag a little bit on my 13 in Macbook Pro w/ Retina w/ 4 gigs of RAM. I turned off shadows and then it played perfectly. Graphics are amazing. Definiately reccommended, completely worth the money. I hope Apple gets the next game in the series, Deus Ex: The Fall!!

Solid game… well thought out plot line that has near-future implications.

I like immersive RPG’s (e.g. Elder Scrolls series… Fallout 3, etc.) with lots of options and replay potential… so this game does not measure up in those terms. However, even with those limitations in mind (linear game play… with a few side quests) it’s very well done, and zero bugs on my iMac G5. The only replay value is to go from avg. difficulty to the hardest level, which became fairly straightforward with experience. I did not like some of the city layouts… confusing to maneuver from place to place… but just part of the ‘experience’ i guess. Bottom line: get it!

Dues EX On My Mac Mini

I just got a Mac Mini and it works fine. I have not maxed out the resoultion yet but the intergrgated graphics cad works fine even though it’s listed as not supported. I was able to use the Logitech F130 Game controller with some cross over software and got that to work as well. I still love it on the X-BOX 360 as well. I heard their’s a ton of extra stuff and achievements, I’ve only unlock half of them so far. Plus there’s like three or four different endings? Not sure but I did hear that the next Dues EX games will be like a Triligoy so that’ll be cool if it actually is and if it picks up where the last one left off.

Too much story

I paid all this money for the game and for the first 45 minutes you have ot hear all this stupid story. I just want a first person shooter game! Instead I’m stuck watching hearing about some character’s dog knocking over plants. Huh? Who cares?

Meh...

Well I know alot of people like this game but I just couldn’t get into it. Don’t misunderstand me I played through the whole game, I need to get my money’s worth after all. However, many of the strong points that people state in their reviews I just simply can’t agree with. Frankly, if I had not payed for the game I probably would have stopped after the first three or four missions. The game ran very well on my late 2012, 13” macbook pro. In spite of the error message warning about graphics errors I received prior to booting every time I experienced no problems whatsoever. The graphic quality is fine although its mostly the standard dystopian future garbage you see in half of the Triple A games getting released these days. The character designs would have been okay if they didn’t seem so heavily and generically inspired by the Metal Gear Solid games (since Sons of Liberty, and mind you that game predates this one by nearly a decade). I found myself bored by pretty much all of the Boss fights in the game, and I played on the highest difficulty setting. The boss fights themselves are indicative of pretty much the overall game experience. Basically the gameplay amounts to your standard duck and cover stealthy-ish shooter. As long as you focus on the right character and gun upgrades you can pretty much breeze through the game. Additionally the augmentation upgrades in this game felt uninspired. Now I was a big fan of the original Deus Ex and I understand in the timeline this story is a prequel, however in that the augmentations all made sense in this some of the augmentations are quite literally useless. In order to consistently get experience and upgrade you will find yourself trodding through the mind-numbing tedium of ‘hacking’ computer terminals and door locks. Lastly there is the story... Many people seemed to praise this game based on the story. However, if I compare to the original Deus Ex this game simply does not hold up. I found the story to be relatively flat and predictable, especially if you had played the previous game. All of the deep conspiracy oriented story-telling that was so appealing about the first game seems like it has just been shoe-horned into this one. Furthermore the ending just came across as heavy-handed and pretentious, an attempt to comment on real world issues but coming across as completely out of touch. Perhaps I read too much into it but its hard not to take it that way when the final video prior to the credits features live footage of people protesting, companies polluting the environment and boots marching while the main character monologues about the virtues and follies of mankind. Final conclusion, if you enjoy duck and scoot shooters and have ran through the other options in the app store this game is okay. I realize much of my criticism is based on personal taste. There are many people who thoroughly enjoy this game and for the price of addmision I suppose it can be a solid play through. But for me the combination of monotonous gameplay, heavy-handed story telling and generic dystopian settings simply did not satisfy what I was looking for.

Fantastic Storyline and Gameplay

This game has one of the best, most intelligent storylines of any first person shooter, complete with a great, open ended gameplay experience. Plays perfectly at max settings on 15” Macbook Pro Retina with no issues.

DEUX REVOLUTION-HUMAN REVOL.

WELL, I WANT A REFUND. BOUGHT THIS GAME 1 WEEK AGO AND IT WILL NOT DOWNLOAD. I HAVE A MAC PRO WITH ALL LATEST UPDATES AND STILL WILL NOT DOWNLOAD…… I WANT A REFUND PLEASE. SHA

Stutters and lags on macBook Pro Retina 13 inch

This game stutters on the 13 inch MacBook Pro even though it is more than capable of running this game smoothly. Might run better on lower end macbooks though.

Excelent game!

So I saw the game and tought, ok may be a good game or may not, but so far FOR ME It is exelet. I like games with story; this over exagerates a little bit, but it still amaizing. As all you know, MacBooks or IOS in general is not the best deal for pc games. PC stands for Personal Computers not the Windows brand which is different,.... and talking about perfonmance It is good for what a Mac can provide! I am using a Macbook pro 2013 and runs pretty decent. Also, its the 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3 RAM and 750 HD with a Intel Graphics 4000 1024 MB. I hope the App Store could have more games, but pfff!!!

Fortunately I Did Not Pay $50.00

I will hold the name Feral forever in vane. "Keep the change you filthy animal."

I recommend to anyone

It really makes you think of what you will be in a few decades. This isn’t a far off reality; we will probably LIVE in Deus Ex: Human Revolution within our lifetime (though maybe not in 2027… try 2050). A lot of the game highlights what is true in our world, and what will be further augmented in the next. Ever notice the extensive amount of hacks, the EASE of the hacks, as spoken from from interviews of hackers? With new technology, you don’t even need a computer anymore to hack even the most advanced locks. Did you think Purity First was farfetched? Even today’s research for things like synthetic eyes has come under fire. Besides, how would you feel if you were ruled by people who could break your spine without even trying (AKA- isn’t that kinda like… not having a choice anymore?). The story itself is very good, the gameplay is also solid. But I still can’t get over the unrealistic chances of how random vents, often not even connected to a larger air flow, simply CONNECT rooms. On your first overseas visit, the conclusion will have you sneaking through a vent (don’t want to spoil ANY story) as a gameplay option, not story. But that scenario is practically impossible without the vent. I also can’t forgive how the 9mm pistol is more powerful than ANY other gun when fighting normal enemies. It’s a 9mm pistol, not a 50 cal! I also don’t like the boss fights. They’re just tedious, unless you have a stun gun. Then it’s just pathetically funny. I recommend getting it on Steam. If you ever switch to a Windows PC, you’ll still be able to play it. Yes, DXHR is available on mac through Steam, but you don’t need separate purchases for Windows and Mac. Besides, Steam=Mac App Store x100. It has every worthwhile game from the App Store and then a LOT more.

It doesn’t run

Why is this being sold in the Mac app store when (1) the games says it has problems on Mac and is likely not usable, and (2) it crashs upon starting and will not run.

Awesome Game!!! Well worth the price!!

The graphics are amazing. I had no issues running this game. The video on the macbook pros dispaly or with the hdmi hookup adapter worked great. I have a Mid 2012 macbook pro.

Great game, utterly broken on a retina display laptop

Luckily I’m playing this mostly on an external display, but when I try to launch the game on my laptop, it crashes.
